Kimo
Akane
Like most Hawaii resident's Kimo Akane has been going
to Vegas since his 21st birthday. Born & raised on the North Shore
of Oahu, Kimo moved to the mainland for a couple of years after graduating
from Kahuku High School. Until he moved home to live and have a family.
He says, “If I lived in Vegas, I’d always vacation in Hawaii.
But living in Hawaii and vacationing in Vegas is unquestionably the best
bet!”
Like most locals as his children grew older and more self sufficient he
and his wife visited Las Vegas more often;
“I wanted to learn how everything in Vegas worked from getting a
comp to playing the tables.”
The Internet fueled his passion for information about the city that never
sleeps. Web sites filled with information about the different games, comp
systems, hotel ratings, show reviews, events, shopping and eating were
plentiful.
“I would spend a lot of my spare time surfing the net looking for
Vegas tips, tricks and secrets. I don’t consider myself an expert
on Vegas, more like a filter weeding out the bad information. After reading
news stories, newsletters, press releases and talking with people from
Vegas I like share the more interesting stuff with people who feel the
same way I do about Las Vegas.”
He started doing a talk radio show about Las Vegas in January 2005 that
has become the perfect vehicle to stay in touch with ex-patriated residents
and some of the city’s movers and shakers. The show airs Thursday
at 9:00am on Sports Radio 1420AM or can also listen to it on www.kimovegas.com.
“Then I sent Jan Hori at MidWeek some sample columns about Las Vegas.
She sent them to Ron Nagasawa & Don Chapman the Publisher and Editor
of MidWeek because they were looking for writers for the new weekend edition
of MidWeek and that’s how Kimo’s Vegas was born. It’s
really exciting to write for MidWeek AND MidWeek the Weekend and now Oceanic
Cable’s AroundHawaii.com and to have my own website about Las Vegas
http://www.kimosvegas.com is
a dream come true.”
